Chapin left a lasting impact on the public health world. His discoveries and his ability to get his message across leaves him as one of the principle bacteriologist of not only his time but of the history of bacteriology. He revolutionized the public health field also. He made it known to the public about procedures such as self hygiene which are still used today and he publicly disputed both scientific and civilian theories such as the miasma theory.

Public Medal Honor Awardee (28) The Society of Medical Officers of Health elected Chapin to be awarded Honorary Fellowship, which had only been given to a few Americans. (29 ) The American Epidemiological Society made Chapin a permanent consulting member. (30) |

Medical and health officers regarded his work as the authoritative work on the principles of communicable disease control. (31 ) George E. Vincent, President of the Rockefeller Foundation said in his address that Charles was a “hero who has safeguarded the lives of many, many people in his own city, in his own land and in lands beyond the sea”.(32 ) Boston Reporter described Charles as “a man of quiet charm in whom wisdom combines with humor”.(33 ) |
The Providence City Hospital was renamed the Charles V. Chapin Hospital in 1931 to recognize his substantial contributions to improving the sanitary condition of the city of Providence.(31 )
