About Charles V. ChapinA pioneer in the public health movement, Charles V. Chapin was born on January 17, 1856. (1) He attended Brown University, and continued on to medical school. He was a pioneer in the public health industry. He served as superintendent of health for Providence,Rhode Island from 1884- 1932. (2) He is most highly accredited for his breakthrough work in the public health field and his public disagreement with many of the old theories of contracting illnesses. He wrote about his almost perfectly documented data in his book The Sources and Modes of Infection, which to this day is still widely cited and recognized in the public health field. (3) His legacy remains today as the pioneer of public health. He died at the age of 85 in January of 1941. (4)
