Chapin's BackgroundAfter attending Brown University, Charles V. Chapin attended Bellevue Hospital Medical School. He became a physician but was not very successful at it because he lacked bedside manner. (6) He worked in bacteriology labs with fellow coworkers and took an interest in germs. The scientific method had also just developed at the time that Chapin began bacteriology lab work. (7) He was the health superintendent in Providence, Rhode Island from 1884 to 1932. (8)
